Cheryl King, DNP, CNS, RN

Board Member

Cheryl King, DNP, CNS, RN, is an innovative nursing leader and advanced practice nurse specializing in neonatal intensive care, high-risk obstetrics, and women’s health. As a Project Director at the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, Cheryl advances clinical excellence, workforce development, and health equity through large-scale, grant-funded initiatives. She is currently engaged in the CMS Nursing Home Staffing Campaign supporting nurses to work in long-term care. Her past leadership experience spans major programs including the Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation Nursing Network (WINN) Project supporting rural graduate nurse residency, and the Colorado wide HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, and the HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity Project.

A dedicated advocate for perinatal health equity and maternal-newborn care, Cheryl serves on one of the Colorado Action Coalition Strategic Advisory Committees (COAC). This group focuses on social determinants of health to eliminate care disparities in the perinatal population in Colorado. Her internationally recognized doctoral research—centered on supporting breastfeeding among women with opioid use disorder—was featured in the Journal of Christian Nursing and presented at the Sigma International Nursing Research Congress in 2022 and the Colorado AWHONN 2021 Conference.

Cheryl earned her DNP in Visionary Leadership from Colorado Christian University, following MS and BSN degrees from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She serves on the boards of Sigma Theta Tau (Alpha Kappa at-Large Chapter) and the Center for World Impact. Cheryl is an Advanced Certified Trainer for the Virtual Dementia Tour® from Second Wind Dreams® and holds active memberships across leading national organizations including AWHONN, NANN, ANN, ANA, and CNA.
